Senate majority leader Harry Reid is in deep trouble in his bid for reelection in November. He's tied with Tea Party candidate Sharon Angle, and his popularity with Nevada voters is at an all time low. So how does old Harry plan to fix this problem, by representing his constituency more faithfully? Keep DREAMing!
No, Reid's plan is to buy Hispanic votes by offering them not only amnesty for their illegal alien brethren but actual college scholarships funded by taxpayer dollars. The vehicle for this giveaway? The Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. To help ensure its passage, Reid has actually tacked this taxpayer-fleecing bill onto the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011, the bill that's supposed to fund the military for the next fiscal year, which starts October 1st.
Reid and his Democrat pals in the Senate, of course, figure that the bill will have to pass, lest the military not be funded starting in about two weeks. Oh, and by the way, the bill also contained a rider eliminating the military's don't ask - don't tell policy. What a great bunch these Dems are!
Fortunately, the vote on this vile bill was delayed by threat of a Republican filibuster, which remained viable due to a failure of the Dem's cloture motion to obtain the required 60 votes today. But Reid promised that the bill would be back after election time in November. Even if they have a "lame duck" Congress, the Dems will still have the opportunity to pass this bill again.
Sharon Angle may defeat him, but she may not, in which case Reid may be back for an encore as Senate Majority Leader. If you ever needed a reason to vote for Pat Toomey, this is it, because Joe Sestak will certainly vote to retain Reid as Majority Leader.
