Networking is key to managing your career. Get weekly tips here.Networking is building connections.

Why networking?: Networking is no longer only for the unemployed. The reality of today’s economy is one of volatility where “stability” for professionals means having an up-to-date skill set and a strong network to help you land quickly when the next transition happens.

This week’s networking tip: Job or career fairs are a great place to network. When attending a fair, take advantage of all opportunities to get contact information from people you meet. Take a research approach and learn more from employers than whether or not they have jobs available that fit your skills. This can be a great time to learn “insider” information that can help you be more successful when applying in the future. Then, stand out by following up via email, following through with any actions you need to take, and setting follow up meetings when appropriate. Read more tips for success at job fairs.
