Why networking?: Networking is no longer only for the unemployed. The reality of today’s economy is one of volatility where “stability” for professionals means having an up-to-date skill set and a strong network to help you land quickly when the next transition happens.
This week’s networking tip: Many times “networking” becomes a bad word, a synonym for making a sale or asking for help. If the thought of networking has another meaning for you, fear, consider a reframe. Instead of making a sale or asking for something that makes you uncomfortable, start with the goal of learning something new about an industry, company, position, or person. When meeting someone new or attending an event, set small goals – meeting one new person or learning something new that can keep you moving. It will make the meeting more comfortable for you and for others and increase your success rate!
