Nettle Meadow cheesemakers making barn debut a local-products party

Nettle Meadow Farm, a well-regarded Warren County producer of goat- and sheep-milk cheeses for restaurants and consumers, will debut its new barn loft event venue this Saturday. The turn-of-the-20th-century barn now is home to the Joseph F. Kemp Memorial Animal Sanctuary, farm owners Lorraine Lambiase's and Sheila Flanagan's facility housing animals too disabled or old to be productive.

The 50-acre farm will welcome visitors from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20. On the docket will be a collection of vintners, cider makers and brewers from around the region pouring samples of their wares for pairing with the farm's artisan cheeses and other locally-produced foods.

Joseph Ganley, marketing and promotions specialist for the New York State Department of Agriculture, will be on hand, as will acoustical guitarist Ellen Kenney. Ticket sales will benefit the Thurman Station Association, which uses funds to showcase local businesses and organizations to economically benefit the region. A percentage of the event's profits will be donated to the Skyler Castro fund and Thurman Food Pantry.

Lambiase's and Flanagan's Nettle Meadow products has won several recent American Cheese Society blue ribbon awards. They are its triple crème Kunik (made from goat's and cow's milks) in 2010 and its Three Sisters (made from sheep's, cow's and goat's milks) in 2012.
