Keith Bogans' comeback ended just after it started.
The free agent acquisition, who started Monday night in a loss to the Chicago Bulls, suffered a broken ankle in what the Nets described as a "complete tear of the deltoid ligament."
He is lost for the season.
Bogans injured his ankle late in a 99-92 loss to the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night at the Prudential Center. He had to be helped into the locker room.
The veteran guard appeared in five games for the Nets after playing in 98 games last season with the Bulls.
The Nets had already issued a release regarding a lengthy list of currently injured players. Before the game against the Pistons, the team listed the assigned dates for status updates on Brook Lopez, MarShon Brooks, Mehmet Okur, Damion James, and DeShawn Stevenson.
Bogans can be added to that list.
Avery Johnson conceded that the injury was "not looking great" following the Nets' loss.
The injury was added to insult for the Nets coach.
"My reaction is it's really tough when we're screaming like 50 times that we don't want (Greg) Monroe to go left. He's a left-handed player; he has two left hands," Johnson said. "We're screaming we don't want him to go left but we still allow him to go left and dunk on us. As a result Bogans is tangled up inside and comes down wrong. So it's just unfortunate that we didn't execute... and Bogans gets hurt on the same play."
