Nets embarrassed in Detroit, fall to Pistons

Deron Williams earned accolades for making the Eastern Conference All-Star team based on his ability to keep the Nets competitive despite a plethora of injuries.

Not even Super John Williamson could have saved the Nets Friday night.

Although the Nets are sending only one player to the All-Star game, the whole team was in vacation mode in a 109-92 beatdown at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Nets trailed by 30 to a team that entered the game with a 7-20 record. Lawrence Frank's team had the last laugh, though.

The Pistons beat the Nets for the second straight game and humiliated them in the process.

“I got nothing for y’all tonight,” Deron Williams told the media following the game. “It’s the same old story every game. It’s kind of hard to really answer what went wrong."

For starters, the team failed to contain big man Greg Monroe once again. Monroe picked up a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He only missed one shot in the game.

Jonas Jerebko continued to torment the Nets, adding 20 points off the bench.

With the game basically over late in the first quarter and the Spurs coming to The Rock, Avery Johnson turned to his bench.

Johan Petro scored a team-high 16 points and Jordan Williams contributed 11.

"The Pistons have some confidence right now, and we have to get our confidence back," Johnson said. "In games like this, that makes a big difference."

The Pistons have gained their confidence against the Nets, however. The Nets have now lost five straight games.

The Pistons scored 100 points for the first time this season.

The Nets did see the return of MarShon Brooks, but he was largely ineffective, going just 2-of-7 from the field.

Starters Deron Williams and Jordan Farmar scored 14 points apiece.

The Nets have a quick turnaround as they welcome the San Antonio Spurs to Newark on Saturday night. The 8-20 Nets will face Johnson's old team, the 18-9 Spurs.
