Netflix has ordered a third season of award-winning political drama “House of Cards Season 3,” a week before season 2 is set to debut on the streaming service, a company rep confirmed.

Both Kevin Spacey, who stars as ethically challenged congressman Frank Underwood, and co-starRobin Wright, who plays Underwood’s equally devious wife, have signed on for another 13 episodes of the show, according to sources familiar with the production. Shooting is expected to commence soon on location in Baltimore, where much of season 2 was shot.

House of Cards” season 2 is set to premiere Feb. 14, 2014, with all 13 episodes available at once in all Netflix territories. The first season won three Emmy Awards — David Fincher for directing along with wins in casting and cinematography — and Wright won a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama.

Under the original deal for “HoC” struck in 2011, Netflix ordered 26 episodes from Media Rights Capital (MRC), which represented the first two seasons. Netflix reportedly paid about $100 million for the 26-episode run.

The series was adapted from the BBC miniseries of the same name by Beau Willimon. “HoC” is executive produced by Fincher, Willimon, Spacey, Joshua Donen, Eric Roth, Dana Brunetti, Andrew Davies, Michael Dobbs and David Manson. The drama is produced by Donen/Fincher/Roth and Spacey’s Trigger Street Productions in association with MRC for Netflix.
