The company issued the recall because the affected products may contain beef from the Rancho Feeding Corporation, which recalled over 8 million pounds of meat last week. According to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, Rancho Feeding Corporation "processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection. Thus, the products are adulterated, because they are unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce."
Customers who purchased the recalled Hot Pockets should not eat the product, but should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Nestlé Consumer Services at (800) 392-4057.
Nestlé stresses that no other Hot Pockets varieties are affected by the recall. The USDA notes that no illnesses have been reported relating to Rancho Feeding Recall.
