According to Speed Skating Canada, Canadian Olympic gold medallist Christine Nesbitt of London, Ontario was dominant on Friday in the women's 1500m at the 2013 Canadian Single Distances Long Track Speed Skating Championships at Calgary's Olympic Oval.
Nesbitt posted a time of 1:56.48, and beat Winnipeg's Brittany Schussler by nearly two full seconds. Schussler had a time of 1:58.47 and Regina's Kalli Christ was third with a time of 1:58.51.
Nesbitt is currently ranked number one in the world in the women's 1500m after posting World Cup victories this season in Heerenveen, Netherlands, and Astana, Kazakhstan. She is also the defending World Champion in the women's 1500m.
Meanwhile, Lucas Makowsky of Regina, Saskatchewan, who was part of the Canadian team that won Olympic Gold in the men's team pursuit at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, won the men's 5000m competiton with a time of 6:29.92.
Winnipeg's Tyler Derraugh meanwhile posted a time of 1:08.69 to win the men's 1000m.
The competitions on Saturday will be the men's 10000m, the women's 1000m and women's 5000m.
