NES Remix announced/released today

In a surprise announcement today, Nintendo has revealed a new downloadable game for their Wii U eShop. NES Remix promises the chance to "test your skills in a series of altered 8-bit challenges" by presenting enhanced and jumbled segments of gameplay from a variety of classic NES titles. Some of the games include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Golf, and The Legend of Zelda.

A promotional video on Nintendo's YouTube channel demos many of the WarioWare-style mini-games. Link is seen infiltrating the first stage in Donkey Kong, while Mario navigates some of his own worlds that have been flipped backwards, partially obscured in darkness, beset by gigantic bullet bills, or ravaged by a blizzard.

NES Remix looks like a fun diversion for retro gamers who are itching for a novel way to enjoy some truly classic Nintendo games. It remains to be seen whether the $14.99 US price tag is warranted by the amount of content on offer, but it's at least nice to see the company spicing up some of their most hallowed franchises in unconventional ways.
