The North East River Yacht Club (NERYC) announced it's fall racing series about a week ago, which kicked off with it's first race on Saturday, September, 14th. The races take place in the waters of the North East River, in the upper reaches of the Chesapeake Bay.
There are two classes of boats included in the races, Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker. Skippers meetings will be held at 1pm before all races. There are four races between scheduled in the series which ends on October, 26th, 2013.
On September, 21st there is a special race as part of the series. According to an email newletter, "September 21st - - - is the North East River Pursuit Race. This is a really fun event you don't want to miss. All participants are given their own start time, based on their PHRF rating, with the highest rating starting first, then the next highest and so forth, with the lowest rated boat starting last. Everyone sails the same course, and the finish is boat-for-boat since all the handicapping is built into the starting sequence. This is a non-Spinnaker event. If you plan on racing in this, please RSVP to me – there is a bit of pre-planning involved. Skippers Meeting is at 1:00, with the first boat starting at 2:00pm. Everyone will be given their start time at the skippers meeting."
Also during this time, the Havre De'Grace Yacht Club (HDGYC) will hold it's annual John Heffner, Jr. invitational regatta in the waters off of Spesutie Island and Aberdeen Proving Ground on October, 5th, 2013. To enter, print out the Entry Form, complete all information including signature and mail with payment to HdGYC, PO Box 897, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
Another event during this time is the University of Delaware Fall Regatta. NERYC hosts the UD sailing team during the sailing season, culminating in this event scheduled for October, 12th and 13th, 2013.
The regular fall series resumes on Sunday, October, 20th, and concludes the following Saturday, October, 26th.
