Washington Wizards forward-center Nene capped off a 30-point performance with a game-winning dunk that lifted his team past the New Orleans Pelicans 94-93 on Saturday night. In addition to matching his career-high, he had seven rebounds, a pair of blocks and three steals.
With seven seconds remaining in the game, the play was set up beautifully by Wizards point guard John Wall, who drove the lane, made the defense commit and found the cutting Nene for the dunk. Wall had a relatively quiet night on offense with 10 points, but his 12th assist resulted in the game-winner.
With 0.3 seconds left, all the Pelicans could do was heave a prayer that was well short of hitting its mark. In the previous play, it was Nene whose prayers were actually answered.
"I just prayed,” said Nene. “I wanted to finish with the ball in my hands. They put the ball into my hands. John, he did amazing, penetration right there, he found me right there. It was an amazing victory."
