NeNe Leakes' presence at a major event on Thursday, May 15, seems to indicate that she's not leaving "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" after all, despite rumors to the contrary. She was one of the housewives selected to represent the show at the NBC Universal Cable Entertainment Upfront in New York City. The upfront is where the company showcases next season's lineup on its cable networks, which includes Bravo, to advertisers.
Bravo head honcho Andy Cohen tweeted a few photos of the event. One of the photos, which NeNe retweeted, shows her sitting right behind Andy and next to housewives from other cities, New Jersey's Melissa Gorga and Dina Manzo and Beverly Hills' Shannon Beador. NeNe playfully sticks her tongue out while Andy smiles broadly.
Not all of the housewives and celebrities from other Bravo shows got an invite to attend the upfront. Several days prior, Naughty But Nice Rob published a list of the ones who were given the opportunity to walk the red carpet and attend the event. The only Atlanta housewives who received an invite were NeNe and Kandi Burruss.
Former Atlanta housewife Kim Zolciak admitted that she didn't get an invite when a fan asked her why she didn't go to the event. The fan quickly let Andy know that it was a mistake to not include Kim and that he should be ashamed for the omission. The third season of Kim's spin-off, "Don't Be Tardy," premieres later this year.
Just the day prior, NeNe had people wondering whether she had quit the show that made her famous. She tweeted that people should never continue in a job that they don't enjoy. Since being an Atlanta housewife is the only long-term gig that NeNe seems to have at the moment, many took that to mean that she's leaving the show.
Reports surfaced about a week ago that NeNe's contract to be a starring housewife on season seven of the show had not been renewed. Rather, she, along with Porsha Stewart, will possibly show up only as friends of housewives. NeNe herself seemed to deny that she had been let go, tweeting a few hours later that she was laughing at all of the rumors.
If NeNe Leakes really isn't coming back as a starring housewife in the next season "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," it's odd that she would have been invited to represent the show. If, instead of being fired, she quit the show of her own accord because she no longer enjoys it, it's unlikely that she would attend the upfront. Fans will just have to wait. The question of whether NeNe is really leaving or staying will likely not be officially confirmed until the official trailer for season seven is released.
