NeNe Leakes is not bothered by what's being said about her. A few hours after a blog reported on Saturday, May 10, that she has been fired from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," NeNe went on Twitter to debunk the report. While NeNe didn't make it explicit what she was talking about, it's pretty obvious from the timing and her fierce reaction that she's likely talking about her future as an Atlanta housewife.
"Laughing @ all these RUMORS," she tweeted, with crying and sad emoticons. Several of NeNe's fans replied with delight to the tweet, asking her if it means that she really hasn't been fired from the show. One person also thanked her for quashing the rumor. So far, NeNe has not responded to clarify whether she will actually return.
A few hours earlier, Tamara Tattles wrote that sources have confirmed that Bravo sent their letters to the housewives on Friday letting them know whether they would be returning as a housewife for season seven. Shockingly, NeNe, the only remaining original housewife from the first season and who has long been thought of the show's biggest star, reportedly won't be returning as a starring housewife. According to a source, she has been offered the chance to return only as a "friend" of the housewives.
There have been many "friends" of the housewives over the years in the various "Real Housewives" shows. As a "friend" of the housewives, NeNe won't be in the opening credits and she won't be shown in any of the promo materials holding a peach. While she'll appear in some of the episodes hanging out with the other housewives, she likely won't be shown having her own storyline. She may or may do the talking head interviews, which is a housewife's one-on-one reflection of what is happening on the show.
The blog also wrote that Porsha Stewart, who attacked Kenya Moore at the reunion, won't be returning as a starring housewife either.Of course, the blog's report of NeNe Leakes and Porsha Stewart not returning as starring housewivescould just turn out to be false, as NeNe seems to imply. Just a week ago, Andy Cohen said that no one has been fired from the show nor have any decisions been made regarding contracts. Fans will just have to wait and see whether the queen bee of the show has really been demoted down to a worker bee.
