NeNe Leakes, who stars on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and NBC’s “The New Normal”, announced she is engaged to ex-husband Gregg Leakes, Us Weekly reported Friday, Jan. 4.
NeNe Leakes appeared on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, Jan. 3and confirmed the engagement when Jimmy Fallon held up a series of romantic photos of the “RHOA” that she posted on Twitter New Year’s Eve. Fallon said, “You start tweeting out these photos. So, are you engaged? Can you say anything?”
Giggling, NeNe replied, “Well, a little after midnight, I was asked this beautiful question: “’Will you marry me – again?” Leakes said she was overcome with emotion and accepted ex-husband Gregg Leakes proposal.
NeNe and Gregg Leakes met in 1996 and divorced in 2011 after 13 years of marriage. The couple has one son, Brentt, 13. The couple’s divorce was precipitated by a conversation Gregg had with an Atlanta radio host in which he said he invested $300,000 in his wife’s career and claimed that “fame got to her head.”
Fans of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” have watched Gregg Leakes woo his ex-wife, and the pair was especially romantic on the couples’ trip to Anguilla. When asked in November if she was romantically involved with Gregg again, NeNe replied, “You know, we’re divorced. I’m single and not looking. Love is a beautiful thing and marriage is a beautiful thing. People will enjoy watching Gregg try to woo me back [during season 5].”
“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” costar Kandi Burruss is happy to see Gregg and NeNe Leakes back together. “NeNe’s happier now. She and Gregg are in a better place.”
