Neil Young offers free stream of new album 'A Letter Home'

Neil Young fans who did not snag the vinyl release of the legendary Canuck singer-songwriter's effort "A Letter Home" on Record Store Day can now listen to the entire album free for a limited time. Originally given vinyl format release on April 19 by Jack White's Third Man Records, The "Heart of Gold" hitmaker's 35th studio album is set to hit shelves in CD and digital formats, as well as a deluxe box set on May 27.

According to a new release posted May 19 at, the multi-Grammy and Juno winner is offering a free stream of all ten-tracks on the album, which contains low-fi acoustic renditions of classic songs by a range of artists which influenced the veteran musician in his formative years. Young covers favorite songs by Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch, Gordon Lightfoot, Tim Hardin, Willie Nelson, Ivory Joe Hunter, Bruce Springsteen and The Everly Brothers.

"A Letter Home" was recorded at Jack White's Third Man Records studio in Nashville, Tenn. on a refurbished 1947 Voice-O-Graph recording booth. The ex-White Stripes frontman is also featured on two tracks and credited with "co-reproducing" the album with Young. Check out the free stream while it lasts via

Boxset perks include both a standard 12" vinyl LP, as well as a "direct feed from the booth” audiophile 12” vinyl album along with seven 6-inch clear vinyl discs, each featuring two of the album tracks, with the seventh one containing a non-album version of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind" and an alternative version of Willie Nelson's "Crazy." In addition, there will be a CD copy, as well as a download code for a digital Audiophile version, a DVD with footage of the recording sessions and a 32-page colour booklet.

Young wrapped his solo acoustic tour with a two-night acoustic solo stand on April 21 and 22 at the historic Chicago Theatre. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will take a brief before heading overseas to team up with Crazy Horse for summer European tour, which begins in July.
