Neil Young mystery track source revealed

Neil Young has revealed the source for the mysterious jam session posted to his official website this weekend.

According an article posted today (1/30/12) by ClassicRockMagazine.com, the legendary Canuck singer-songwriter has finally posted the credits to the 38-minute long audio medley, and revealed the tongue-in-cheek track title as "Horse Back" and, as anticipated, it was performed by Young and his longtime backing band, Crazy Horse

According to Neil Young’s official website, “Horse Back” was engineered and mixed by John Hanlon at Audio Casa Blanca Jan 6, 2012 with assistance by Mark Humphreys and John Hausmann

The jam, which contains a version of the track “F*ckin’ Up” from the 1990 Young/Crazy Horse album Ragged Glory, that morphs into a version of “Cortez the Killer,” includes accompanying video footage which displays vintage recording equipment, vintage guitars, lyric sheets and various retro techno gadetry shot by Ben Johnson

Young appeared at the Slamdance Film Festival earlier this month to promote Journeys, his latest film collaboration with director Jonathan Demme, at which the “Heart of Gold” hitmaker confirmed that he had been recording with Crazy Horse once again.

The ever-unpredictable Young has not recorded with the veteran Los Angeles rockers since 2003’s Greendale

No timeline was given by the ex-Buffalo Springfield frontman at “Slamdance" as to when the new recordings might be released, or what the content might be.

The audio track and credits certainly seem to lend creedence to the Grammy Award winner’s claim, while wetting the appetite for some forthcoming brand new material from Young and his on-again/off-again bandmates.

Did you know?  Neil Young originally met Crazy Horse in 1966 when they were called The Rockets, while he was still a member of the Buffalo Springfield.
