Neil Young and his PonoMusic team have accumulated $5.75 million in funding via Kickstarter. With nearly a week still remaining in the funding initiative, the whopping figure has already made the campaign the third largest in Kickstarter history.
According to an article posted Apr. 11 via Music-News.com, the legendary Canuck singer-songwriter's venture into high fidelity audio has gathered over 16,000 active backers in attaining this impressive financial achievement. It's possible Pono could even become Kickstarter's largest ever campaign before it comes to a close on Apr. 15.
The "Harvest Moon" hitmaker launched his Pono audio system, a music download-service, player, and audio format designed for audiophiles at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas, along with the fundraiser on March 11, 2014. Within 10 hours of the campaign launch, the two-time Grammy winner and his team surpassed their $800,000 goal and hit the $2 million mark within 24-hours.
Commenting on the huge support, PonoMusic CEO, John Hamm said:
We are so excited about hitting this milestone. This campaign has exceeded our expectations from the start."
Funding supporters are being offered PonoPlayers and other rewards as incentives. During this last week of the campaign, a final reward - the PonoClear, a PonoPlayer with transparent casing to fully view its inner details, pre-loaded with a PonoMusic sampler - has been added. Young, who sold-out a four-night solo stand earlier this month in Hollywood, Calif. at the Dolby Theater, continues his acoustic tour on Apr. 17 and Apr. 18 in Dallas, Texas at the Morton H Meyerson Symphony Center. After which the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee heads overseas to team up with Crazy Horse for a summer European tour. See Neil Young.com for more details.
