'Neighbors' knocks Spider-Man from top of box office; 'Godzilla' opens Friday

‘Neighbors’ knocked Spider-Man from the top of the domestic weekend box office, according to industry figures reported by movie tracking site Box Office Mojo on Monday.

R-rated comedy ‘Neighbors’ starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron grossed an impressive $49 million from Friday to Sunday to open at No. 1.

Last weekend’s top movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ tumbled one spot to No. 2 in its second weekend, earning $35.5 million for a total of $146.2 million since opening May 2.

Female revenge comedy ‘The Other Woman’ starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton slipped one notch to No. 3 in its third weekend, earning $9.6 million for a total of $62 million since opening April 25.

Christian drama ‘Heaven is for Real’ fell one spot in its fourth weekend, earning $7.4 million for a total of $75.7 million since opening April 16.

Superhero sequel ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ dropped one spot to No. 5 in its sixth weekend, earning $5.7 million for a total of $245.1 million since opening April 4.

The other new nationwide releases, comedy ‘Moms’ Night Out’ and animated musical adventure ‘Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return,’ failed to make much of an impact at the weekend box office.

‘Moms’ Night Out’ debuted at No. 7 with $4.3 million.

‘Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return’ opened at No. 8 with $3.7 million.
