While this particular article isn't quite educational or even informational, it is pretty neat if you're familiar with Savannah, and especially if you live in one of Downtown Savannah's neighborhoods.
Last year a video game was released called The Walking Dead (stay with me, I promise this'll all make sense in a moment). If you're familiar with the tv series of the same name, this game was developed and written by many of the same people behind the show and comic book by Robert Kirkman, and actually features Savannah in it! This was nice to see, considering that most real-life cities used in games are usually in California or New York (like many movies).
From what I've read online, some of the game's developers visited Savannah and took pictures of lots of blocks and locations in the city, and after returning to their studio they created a 3D mini-version of the city. I've uploaded a slideshow with shots of the city to give you a look. As you can see in the slideshow, they even looked across the Savannah River and created the Westin hotel over there, and really did a great job of capturing the architecture of the buildings and homes here.
The part of the game dealing with Savannah involves the game's 2 main characters (along with other survivors who accompany them) going there in search of an escape or sanctuary. As one can imagine, just the opposite is there and the group has to cross rooftops and other obstacles to find an escape!
While Savannah has a TON of character to it, and its neighborhoods all being very diverse and offering tons of history, it's nice to see our Hostess City get some love, even if it means it was overcome by a zombie outbreak in a video game! But zombies need somewhere fun to visit and "live" (reside?) also, right?
If you're interested in seeing this for yourself, The Walking Dead is developed by Telltale Games, and is available on Steam, Xbox, and Playstation 3.
