When a stray dog known as Jack was picked up for running loose, the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center said he must be put down, according to Thursday's Fox 45 Dayton. The Center claimed the dog was feral and unable to rehabilitated.
But a group of animal lovers in Butler Township would not accept that. Jack had been a stray in their neighborhood for months. Neighbors cared for the feral dog, and many grew to love him.
They wanted to save him. So they got busy.
A group of about a dozen people and their pets gathered outside of the Montgomery County ARC on Wednesday afternoon to support Jack. He was to be euthanized at 3 p.m.
Neighbors contacted rescues to get him help. A rescue was needed to pull him, and someone had to claim ownership of the dog by Wednesday.
Wild Dog Rescue in Michigan stepped up, and will be picking Jack up on Thursday afternoon. Sharon Deis will also be there for Jack.
In her interview with Fox45, Deis stated "Yesterday, I took my two dogs to see him and they allowed us to go back there and as soon as my dog Alie saw him, he jumped on the cage and the dog for the first time looked up and put his ears forward and like 'hi'."
Deis said "This dog is a special dog, it's touched the hearts of 200-300 people."
Special dog, yes. But this writer believes that as his story spreads, the number of hearts he has touched will be a lot higher than that. As will be the number of people grateful to those who fought to save him.
