Driving around the neighborhood last year and the signs and balloons were flagging for the Dominion Hills Craft Show. Dominion Hills is where the famous Peach Orchard battle took place in the Civil War. It is neighborhood above Bluemont Park and extends eastward toward Powhatan Springs Park along the Four Mile Run.
“Dominion Hills Walkabout
First settled by Native American tribes and then colonized by English settlers in the 1600s, this area remained largely rural from the Civil War through the early 1900s. The bucolic countryside was forever changed when Merwin A. “John” Mace bought land here in 1945. Naming it Dominion Hills, Mace built 420 homes by 1951. Today, Dominion Hills boasts 612 homes, two commercial buildings, and access to some of Arlington’s most popular recreational facilities, all nestled within this arrowhead-shaped west Arlington neighborhood.”
It is that time of year again, and there are some familiar names and organizers on the list including Arlington Artist Alliance members, Bryan and Julie Jernigan and Elisabeth Hudgins. Those artists are everywhere this time of year, and I bet they are glad to have an event right in their own neighborhood. It is open and accessible to everyone in Arlington County.
