After Ariel Castro’s house of horrors came to light, the Cleveland police began relooking at cold cases of missing women from the area with a renewed vigor, and discovered that 49-year-old Elias Acevedo Sr.,”was a registered sex offender who had not reported his current address, which was down the street from Castro’s house.”
On Oct. 21, Fox News reported that Elias Acevedo:
“… was arrested in June and charged Thursday with the kidnapping, rape and killing of 30-year-old Pamela Pemberton, and another woman whose remains are believed to be Christina Adkins, a pregnant 18-year-old who vanished in 1995.”
During the period of his incarceration, Acevedo confessed to murdering both Pamela Pemberton and Christina Adkins, and two weeks ago led authorities to Adkins’ body, which Acevedo had hidden in a manhole.
After 18 years of wondering, Christina Adkins’ mother finally gets closure and said that at least now her daughter “can get the burial she deserves.”
“I want to express my thanks to the FBI and everyone else involved.”
Acevedo will be in court on Oct. 21 for arraignment.
He’ll be facing “115 kidnapping charges and more than 173 rape charges among alleged incidents with Adkins, Pemberton and two other girls who were ages 8 and 11 at the time.”
Elias Acevedo Sr. is also looking at charges of raping his brother’s common-law wife in 1993.
On July 26, Acevedo ‘s neighbor, Ariel Castro, pleaded guilty to 937 criminal counts of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated murder after being arrested for the kidnapping and enslavement of three Ohio women who had disappeared from Cleveland between 2002 and 2004.
Castro kept the women captive in his Cleveland home for a decade while he routinely beat, raped, and abused them.
Castro was found dead and hanging in his jail cell on Sept. 3.
