Beautiful are the Beauties of Aten, the Beautiful one has come. This phrase describes Nefertiti, the second most famous Queen, after Cleopatra.
Nefertiti's place as an icon in popular culture is locked in, as she has become somewhat of a celebrity. After Cleopatra she is the second most famous "Queen" of Ancient Egypt in the Western imagination. Though Akhenaten, the Pharoah during the eighteenth dynasty (1550-1292 BC), had several wives, Queen Nefertiti was his chief wife.
Nefertiti is known for her graceful beauty. Her bust has been an icon for many women. Many modern cosmetic lines have used her image. Various societies around the world have adopted the queen as a symbol of true beauty. Many historians have even declared her the most beautiful woman in the world. Thousands of years after her death, she still remains renowned for her beauty.

Nefertiti Filet Curtain or Wall Hanging
Size is 13 inches x 15 inches
Materials:
400 yards #10 cotton thread such as Knit-Cro-Sheen or Aunt Lydia’s in color of choice.
# 7 steel crochet hook Note: begin chain with a hook one size larger, a # 6, to keep the beginning chain loose.
Stitches: chain, extended double crochet (edc) or use the normal double crochet (dc).
Designer Note: I used the extended double crochet stitch, but feel free to use the normal double crochet or even the treble crochet if you wish.
Special stitches:
Extended double crochet (edc): yo hook, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yo, draw through one loop one hook only-3 loops on hook remaining, yo, draw through 2 loops on hoop, yo, draw through rem 2 loops on hook. Another way of looking at this is that you yarn over, make one chain, then yarn over and make a normal double crochet. The chain is what extends it.

Worked in a 4 edc filet method with shared edc forming sp or block.
1 block=4 edc Each additional block is 3 stitches
2 blocks = 7 edc--- 4 +3
5 blocks= 16 edc-- 4+12
Space= (edc, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, edc) = 1 space.
The edc of the last space is shared with the next block.
Detailed Instructions for Rows 1-3:
Row 1: Chain 177, edc in the 9th chain from the hook, *ch 2, skip next 2 chains, edc in next chain, rep from * across. Chain 5, turn. You will have 57 open spaces.
Row 2: Edc in next edc for first open space, *ch 2, skip next 2 chains, edc in next chain, rep from * across. Chain 5, turn. You will have 57 open spaces.
Row 3: Edc in next edc for first open space, *ch 2, skip next 2 chains, edc in next chain, rep from * 18 more times---19 spaces made, *2 edc in next space, edc in next edc, repeat from * once----7 edc =2 blocks, *ch 2, skip next 2 chains, edc in next chain, rep from *7 more times---8 spaces made, *2 edc in next space, edc in next edc, repeat from *13 more times---14 blocks made, *ch 2, skip next 2 chains, edc in next chain, rep from * 13 more times, 14 spaces made. You will have 19 spaces, 2 blocks, 8 spaces, 14 blocks, 14 spaces. Ch 5, turn.
Row 4-60: Edc in next edc for first open space, now follow chart or graph to finish piece.
