With 18 days left of their Kickstarter campaign, San Francisco-based NudeAudio was well beyond their goal of raising the $75,000 needed to launch their newest Bluetooth speaker, the Super M. In fact, at last check, they had raised $395,353, which means they are just $104,647 from their stretch goal of $500,000 at which point their backers will get to vote on a new color to add to the lineup which already includes petrol (a soft blue), plum, pine, and black. If all the buzz about the Super M is on point, it looks like NudeAudio is seriously onto something with their less-is-more design strategy.
Instead of fussing with with loads of unnecessary features and design gimmicks, NudeAudio is investing its money into a few key features of the Super M. Inside of the pocket-sized Super M, NudeAudio has fitted four full range Neodymium acoustic drivers, two passive subwoofers, and a high capacity Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that is projected to last up to eight hours. Additionally, the Super M features speakerphone functionality for hands-free calling. As a matter of smart design and the kind of protection that ought to be standard on all small, portable audio devices, NudeAudio has designed the Super M to meet the IPX5 standard for ingress protection. What this means is that the Super M can withstand water blasted at it from all angles through a 6.3mm nozzle at a flow rate of 12.5 liters/min and a pressure of 30 kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters. In other words, the Super M is highly water, sand, and snow resistant. On the outside, the Super M features a shockproof silicone sleeve to stand up to the kind of abuse real life throws at it. When you think about it, shouldn’t everything you carry around with you be design like that?
If you want to get in on the Super M action, you should act soon. Over 4000 people already have, and based on what I’ve experienced thus far with a preproduction prototype, it looks like no one is going to be the least bit disappointed. You’ll have to check back in a couple weeks to peruse the full review. For more information about NudeAudio, click here. To check out the Super M Kickstarter campaign, click here.
