Need to know: Skora Core (Photos)

Often times, the best or most innovative companies develop out a need to disrupt a stagnant status quo that, for whatever reason, is not addressing the needs of its core audience. Skora is one of those companies. Skora, which happens to be the Polish word for skin, makes minimalist running shoes that are essentially designed to be a secondary protective skin for your foot. This reductive statement about a minimalist running shoe, however, merely addresses the tip of the Skora iceberg.
Introducing the Skora Core. The Core is not like other shoes. This shoe looks like it was designed to fit like a glove, or in this case, a second skin (hence the name). With the Core, this second skin happens to be made out of Pittards Armor-Tan Goatskin leather. Anyone who knows anything about leather knows that goatskin, despite how soft and buttery it can be, is very resilient, and Pittards Armor-Tan process ensures that you get the toughest goatskin leather available today.
Inside the forefoot of the perforated goatskin upper of the Core is an Agion antimicrobial mesh liner, while the rearfoot of the shoe is lined with Pittards WR100X Sheepskin leather which provides maximum softness, grip, and water and sweat resistance without sacrificing breathability. Pair all of this to a Zero-drop (the difference in height between the rise of the heel and forefoot), 11mm stack height outsole (the distance between the bottom of the foot and the ground) made of grippy, lightweight injection blown rubber (IBR).
If all of this sounds as interesting to you as it does to me, you might want to go to the Skora site to indulge in a little shoe shopping. If you want to check them out in person, you’ll have to head down to Zombierunner at 429 South California in Palo Alto. Also, stay tuned for the Skora Core review that will be gracing this space in the near future.
