Need to know: Carhartt Fall 2014

Though it is safe to assume none of us are looking to get blown off the map or inundated with flooding, it would certainly be nice if we would get some weather this Fall and Winter. We are due a good long soak, or at least a squall or two. Either way, wet or dry, the cooler months are just around the corner and Carhartt is ready with a heap of gear to keep you warm, dry, or both.

First up is the Force Reydel Flannel Long Sleeve Shirt. Cut from a 4.5-ounce blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester flannel, the Reydell features FastDry technology to help wick away sweat. The cotton/poly blend should be pretty good at fighting odor while being rather stain resistant, which is good if you happen to be as good at spilling stuff as I am. Up front, Carhartt has seen fit to incorporate one of my favorite pocket combinations: Two easy-entry, flap-top pockets and a hidden zippered side entry pocket that doubles as a discrete vent for when things heat up.

Next is the Paxton Heavyweight Hooded Sweatshirt. This seriously heavyweight sweatshirt is made of a 13-ounce blend of 80% cotton, 20% polyester and uses Rain Defender durable water-repellent to keep wetness at bay. Inside the body of the shirt there’s thick, soft fleece, while the three-piece hood is jersey-lined. To help seal out the elements, the ribbed cuffs and waistband are reinforced with Spandex and the hood has a fat drawstring that should be easy to manipulate with gloved hands. For the ungloved, there’s a standard issue roo-style hand-warmer pocket that conceals an inner security pocket to stash a mobile phone.

The Crowley Jacket is next up for your perusal. This is one of those Carhartt products that easily blurs the line between work and streetwear. Stylish, to be sure, this soft-shell jacket is designed to be tough as nails, water and windproof, but still versatile and comfortable. The shell is comprised of 90% polyester and 10% Spandex and it is backed with a lining of 95% polyester and 5% Spandex. The whole thing is finished off with durable water-repellent, tons of discreet pockets and an adjustable draw-cord at the waist to help customize the fit.

Lastly, we have the 10-Inch Insulated Brown Pac Boot. These boots look like the monster truck of the boot world. They are insulated with the thin, breathable, and waterproof LiteFire insulation and constructed of brown oil-tanned leather, abrasion resistant Cordura, waterproof membrane, and black abrasion resistant leather. Tucked away inside is a composite safety-toe, Ortholite insole and padded collar as well as an Ortholite comfort tongue. These are serious boots!
