“You can't get mad at weather because weather's not about you. Apply that lesson to most other aspects of life.” Doug Coupland
“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” Anthony J. D'Angelo
Spring is in the air, no, wait, maybe not. Nebraska weather can change dramatically in a matter of hours; which, this weekend has been a perfect example.
On Friday, March 8th, early am temperatures were in the mid to high twenties and the sunrise was beautiful. Friday’s high topped out at a calm 55 degrees. It was a beautiful day with skies ranging from sunny, to cloudy, to partly cloudy, to sunny again.
The early morning hours of Saturday brought rain showers. The day started out with temperatures around the 36 degree mark and cloudy skies with some sprinkles. As the day went on we saw plenty of sunshine and the temperature rose to a comfortable 63 degrees. Late Saturday evening we saw the cloud cover again and steady rain showers; which, eventually turned to sleet.
Bingo! Shortly after ten pm on Saturday the sleet began to turn to snow. Over the next few hours the winds picked up making driving conditions out on the open roads and highways on the treacherous side in some areas. Dodge and Washington County residents awoke to a temperature of 28 degrees, snow covered fields and driveways, and still blowing snow.
So, within a seventy-two hour period many Nebraskans saw temperatures ranging from below freezing to Spring-like, a wide range of skyscapes, rain, sleet, snow, and winds ranging from calm to blustery.
Sunday’s snow was a great one for making snowballs, a snowman, or even a small snow fort. Even with the blowing snow it was still a good day to get outside and get physical. A good old fashioned snowball fight gets you outside, gets your blood pumping, and is just plain fun!
What Monday will bring we will just have to wait and see once we roll out of bed. Whatever weather it brings keep in mind that there is no bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.
Spring is just around the corner Nebraska! Let’s hope that 2013’s spring and summer seasons bring just the right amount of rain. We have had our share of floods and droughts in the past few years. Yes, let’s hope for just the right amount of rain this year.
