The Nebraska Cornhuskers open Big 10 play at home against Illinois on Saturday. After Thursday’s practice, Bo Pelini announced that Tommy Armstrong will make his second start at quarterback for the Huskers. According to Husker.com, Pelini stated that Tommy Armstrong will be starting and Ron Kellogg III will be ready to go as the backup.
For the second consecutive game, Taylor Martinez will be out with a turf toe injury. In fact, it will be at least a month before he sees the field again. Martinez’s last game action came against UCLA on September 14, and he looked disturbingly flat footed in retrospect. Taylor never really broke contain to make plays with his feet against the Bruins’ defense. Now Pelini says that Taylor Martinez won’t play until he is “100 percent” healthy.
According to Bo Pelini, both available quarterbacks have had a good week of practice. Still, the reps will be determined by the outcome of the game. There is no decision to split them evenly or at all.
It is also Homecoming for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
