JAZZ MAESTRO GERALD WILSON HONORED AT THE 25TH ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION'S
2010 ‘JAZZ ISSUE FORUM AND CONCERT’
Legendary NEA Jazz Master Gerald Wilson was recently honored by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) at the 2010 Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) Jazz Issue Forum and Concert, which took place on September 16, 2010 in Washington, DC. This year marked the 25th Anniversary of the CBCF ALC Jazz Issue Forum and Concert, hosted by Congressman John Conyers Jr. At 92 years old, Gerald Wilson dazzled the audience as he led the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra through selections from his masterwork "Detroit" on Mack Avenue Records.
Throughout his illustrious career, Wilson has been honored by the United States Congress, earned seven Grammy nominations, a recent NAACP Image Award nomination, a NARAS President's Merit Award, top Big Band and Composer/Arranger honors in the Downbeat International Critics Poll, the NEA American Jazz Masters Fellowship, two American Jazz Awards for Best Arranger and Best Big Band, and his masterpieces are ensconced in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
