Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will name its upcoming Breakaway Plus-class ships Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss, according to an Oct. 8 press release received by Examiner. The names were selected by fans in a contest that NCL ran on its Facebook page last month.
The new ships, which are expected to debut in autumn 2015 and spring 2017, are slightly larger versions of NCL’s current Breakaway class ships, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway. Each will measure approximately 163,000 gross tons and have a passenger capacity of 4,200, making them the largest in the NCL fleet.
In its “Norwegians Name Their Ships” contest, NCL presented a list of ten potential names for the two new ships, from which entrants selected their top two favorites. The contest ran from Sept. 10 through Sept. 24 and was open to residents of the United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom. One entrant, chosen at random, will receive a trip for two on Norwegian Escape, the first Breakaway Plus ship to enter service, including round-trip coach airfare, ground transportation, a balcony stateroom, and an invitation to the ship’s inaugural festivities.
