Hey, “NCIS” fans. A few spoilers have been leaked for the series’ twelfth season on the CBS network…and it sounds as if Gibbs and his team will hit the ground running right out of the gate!

The twelfth season of “NCIS” is set to begin with Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and McGee (Sean Murray) heading to Russia, where the series’ newest villain, Sergei Michnev, played by Alex Veadov (“Svetlana,” “Alias”) will be introduced. Though few details have been given regarding Michnev’s role in the season, it has been stated that there is the possibility of his story line featuring in a crossover with the New Orleans team, headed by Special Agent Pride (Scott Bakula.)

But Michnev will not be the only new character to be introduced. One of the NCIS agents will gain a new love interest this season. (And, here’s a hint, it won’t be McGee, though Margo Harshman (“Betas,” “The Big Bang Theory,”) will be reprising her role as Delilah Fielding this season.)

Rumor has it DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) will be sticking a toe into new relationship waters. The character, which is still in the process of being developed, is slated to appear in the fourth episode of the season. Of the new love interest, “NCIS” executive producer Gary Glasberg had this to say, “It’s time for Tony to continue to grow a little bit. He went through a lot last year emotionally and tried to deal with Ziva’s departure as he could. And it’s time ‘for someone new.’ We’ll be mature about it and handle it properly, and Michael’s excited about it.”

So what else can fans expect this season from their favorite series? Gary Glasberg promises a return to more “team-oriented” story lines.

Among those is an episode devoted to Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, played by veteran actor David McCallum. The episode, which will involve both Ducky and Bishop traveling to England, will explain more about Ducky’s past and how the man, as we know him, came to be.

So what do you think of the news? Are you excited to see Tony get a new love interest? What do you think new villain Michnev will be like? Only time will tell. Tune into the “NCIS” season premiere when it returns this fall to CBS on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.
