'NCIS' season 11 finale preview and photos: Paying tribute to Ralph Waite

"NCIS" season 11 is ending on a sad note with next week's episode 24, "Honor Thy Father," as the series pays tribute to recurring guest star Ralph Waite, who had played Gibbs' father, Jackson, since the season 6 episode "Heartland." On Tuesday, May 6, CBS released a new sneak preview of the episode.

The season 11 finale honors the memory of Waite, as this is going to be that very rare episode where the case is going to be taking a backseat to the personal story, even though this is a pretty big case. The team's investigation involves a fire on a U.S. Navy ship that served as a secret detention site for indicted terrorists. Was the fire accidental or could it have been an intentional diversion for an escape? If it's the latter, they have a serious problem on their hands.

Meanwhile, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) travels to his childhood home of Stillwater following the news of his father's passing. That's what the "Honor Thy Father" promo focuses on, with not even a glimpse of the case – as it should be with an episode like this. It begins with Vance (Rocky Carroll) delivering the bad news to Gibbs about his father's stroke, and after that, it's all about Jackson's funeral, with the team in attendance to say goodbye to one of their own. The end of the promo – "Bye, Dad" – is enough to set the tone for the episode. Get ready to cry.

Plus, don't forget to check out the slideshow to see the promotional photos CBS has released from this episode. The photos do offer a look at the crime scene and the investigation, but the rest of the images are all about Gibbs, at his father's funeral and in his father's store.

"NCIS" season 11 ends Tuesday at 8 p.m. on CBS. What do you think of the finale "Honor Thy Father" photos and promo?
