CBS.com has announced today, Feb. 3, that the upcoming "NCIS" spin off, "NCIS: New Orleans' has hired its first cast member. Scott Bakula of "Quantum Leap" fame will be playing the head federal agent of the area, Special Agent Pride, much like Jethro Gibbs' role on "NCIS".

The character is described as “embodying New Orleans and driven by the need to do what’s right … with warmth, passion, strength and humor. He’s a unique federal agent working in one of this country’s most unique cities" according to CBS officials.

Mark Harmon is set to be co-executive producer on this show.

The show is set in New Orleans but the territory that they will be covering will be from Pensacola, Fla. to the Texas panhandle. The story is supposed to center on navy crews hitting the big easy and getting into lots of fun, music, food, and trouble.

"NCIS: New Orleans" is set to be one of the leading pilots that CBS will air this fall. Can CBS handle 3 "NCIS" shows, especially after they cancelled the "NCIS: Red" spin off. They have been successful with the CSI shows so maybe the crime procedural hot streak is still going strong.
