On Friday, June 25, 2010, The National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) gathered at The Music Center at Strathmore to pay a special tribute to over 80 regional artists who care deeply about the impoverished and maltreated children and youth in our community. These artist philanthropists have shared their most valuable, visual gifts, reflecting the beauty and significance of our world.

The honorary Co-Chair Allison Seymour of Channel Fox 5 and musician Marcus Johnson hosted this noble event with amazing live performaces by Marcus Johnson and Broadway Star and Sony Recording Vocalist Julia Nixon.

According to NCCF's Director of Marketing & Media Relations Nicole Lucas, the goal of the event is to benefit the construction of the FreddieMacFoundationYouthActivitiesCenter (YAC), a critical haven for homeless families and lost youth.

YAC is a well-designed and soon to be constructed 20,415 square foot facility on the Bethesda, Maryland campus of NCCF.  It will house a two-story gymnasium, a performance stage, creative arts studios, a dining facility and activity/meeting rooms. Children and parents will engage in physical, stress reducing activities year-round, regardless of the weather, and develop new interest and expertise in recreational, creative, and artistic endeavors. YAC will provide special opportunities for NCCF’s nearly 800 volunteers to serve others in need.

Through the innovative programs such as schooling, job training, health, nutrition and parenting skills, YAC will help vulnerable children and youth who are disconnected from their community or families to thrive and find hope and encouragement.

NCCF is dedicated to continue its fundraising efforts and invites you to visit their future events:

Non-Black-Tie Hard Hat Event  – July 17th 10am – 11:30am
Back to School drive – July – September
Fannie Mae Help the Homeless – November 20, 2010 and
Art and Soul 2011 – June 3, 2011

The total project cost for the Youth Activities Center(Building and Equipment) is $7.2 million and NCCF has $1.9 million left to raise. To make a donation please visit us at www.nccf-cares.org or contact Heidi Coons, Director of Development & Institutional Advenecement.
