NCAA: Late in her collegiate career, Allyse Ishino reaches a milestone

It is shocking to think that Allyse Ishino, first alternate to the 2004 Olympic team and star recruit of Stanford's class of 2010, has gone almost her entire college career without winning an all-around title.

But Ishino, who sat out her freshman season with pulmonary embolism and has been limited due to injuries for most of her NCAA career, finally got an overall victory Sunday night when Stanford faced off with Cal, North Carolina and Eastern Michigan at their yearly invitational.

Just in time too -- Sunday was senior day at Stanford, meaning it is the last time Ishino will compete in front of her home crowd.

Ishino, whose younger brother Glen competes for Cal, also had top finishes on uneven bars and balance beam, and set a career high on floor exercise.

Minnesota vs. Iowa @ Iowa: Minnesota 194.625, Iowa 194.2. This meet belonged to Iowa's Rebecca Simbhudas, who won vault (9.85), balance beam (9.85) and floor exercise (9.875) but took herself out of all-around contention with a 9.325 on bars. Minneosta's Kristin Furukawa was the top gymnast on uneven bars (9.9), while sophomore Lucy Ennis won the all-around crown (39.1, career high). (GopherSports.com)

UIC vs. Western Michigan and Bowling Green @ Western Michigan: Western Michigan 193.925, UIC 191.15, Bowling Green 190.675. Western Michigan's Kristine Garbarino was the big winner Sunday night, taking the all-around (38.925) and balance beam (9.825), while teammate Liz Prouty tied with UIC's Kayleigh Kramer and Andrea Skala for the floor title. Western Michigan's Meghan Donovan and Bowling Green's Monica Eaton tied on uneven bars (9.85). Bowling Green's Danielle Wishart had the highest score on vault (9.8). (UICFlames.com)

All-around winner Jordan Salsberg of SEMO (38.825) tied Illinois State's Tori Sarantakis for the vault win (9.775), while Illinois State's Erica Schick tied SEMO's Kelley Krengiel for the bars title (9.8). All-around winner Brigitte Kivisto of Yale (38.55) was also the top scorer on floor exercise (9.875), while Brown's Victoria Zanelli won beam (9.775).
