NCAA Football: Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly rejects NFL future

After loosing the BCS National title game to the University of Alabama, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had a big decision on his hands as to whether he wanted to remain in the college game or take the all or nothing leap to the NFL. According to ESPN sources on Jan. 12, 2013, he has finally made up his mind was to what his future will hold.

According to the coach's quotes it appears that he will be remaining at Notre Dame in with college football for the foreseeable future:

This week, I had an incredible opportunity to speak with one of the premier organizations in sports about becoming their head coach.

Like every kid who has ever put on a pair of football cleats, I have had thoughts about being a part of the NFL. However, after much reflection and conversation with those closest to me, I have decided to remain at Notre Dame.

This decision was motivated purely by my love for Notre Dame and the entire Fighting Irish community, the young men I have the great fortune to coach, and my desire to continue to build the best football program in the country.

We still have a lot of work to do and my staff and I are excited about the challenges ahead.

Kelly was interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles following the parting of ways between the NFC club and Andy Reed. However, those talks appear to have been fruitless. The Chicago Bears are also believed to have been interested in the head coach.

Notre Dame had signed Kelly to a two-year contract extension earlier in the year and he is set to remain with the university until at least 2016, but there is always the thought that he could leave next year if he has another stellar year with the Fighting Irish.
