NCAA basketball: Ranking the early season tournaments, 11-15

The pairings for all NCAA men’s early season basketball tournaments were announced on Aug. 8.

This article is part one of four articles that will rank all 23 NCAA Exempt Tournaments. This article will look at No. 11-15.

11. Barclays Center Classic

The Barclays Center Classic features eight teams split into Hosts Teams and Visiting Teams. The tournament will play on campus sites (Nov. 16-25) Subregional games at Jersey City, N.J. and Brooklyn (Nov. 28-29). A few games will be televised on NBC Sports Network.

Virginia, Vanderbilt, Rutgers and La Salle are the Hosts Teams while the Visiting Teams include Norfolk State, St. Francis-Brooklyn, St. Peter’s and Tennessee St.

Visitor’s semifinals: Norfolk State vs. St. Francis-Brooklyn and Tennessee State vs. St. Peter’s.

Host’s semifinals: Rutgers vs. Vanderbilt and La Salle vs. Virginia.

Best semifinal matchups: Tennessee St. vs. St. Peter’s/ Rutgers vs. Vanderbilt

Most intriguing finals matchup: Norfolk St. vs. St. Peter’s/ Virginia vs. Rutgers.

12. Las Vegas Invitational

The Las Vegas Invitational features eight teams that will play at campus sites (Nov. 21-24). The bracket is split into host teams and visiting teams with the semifinals/finals of each bracket being played in Las Vegas (Nov. 27-28). Some games will be televised on Fox Sports1

Baylor, Illinois, Indiana State and Memphis are the Host teams while Austin Peay, Brown, Pepperdine, Prairie View and Stephen F. Austin are the Visiting teams.

Semifinals: Austin Peay vs. Brown and Stephen F. Austin vs. Prairie View; Indiana State vs. Illinois and Baylor vs. Memphis.

Best semifinal matchups: Stephen F. Austin vs. Prairie View/ Baylor vs. Memphis

Most intriguing potential finals matchups: Stephen F. Austin vs. Austin Peay/ Memphis vs. Illinois

13. Hall-of-Fame Tip-Off

The Hall-of-Fame Tip-off features eight team, with four teams each playing in the Naismith bracket and Springfield bracket. The tournament will be played from Nov. 14-20, 26 at campus sites and in Uncasville, Conn., on Nov. 22-23. Some games will be shown on ESPN’s family of networks.

The semifinals and finalof the Springfield bracket will be in played n Ucasville, Conn. As will Day one and Day two of the Naismith bracket.

The Hall-of-Fame Tip-off would be further up the rankings had the Naismith bracket not been predetermined.

Springfield bracket semifinals: Manhattan vs. Binghamton and Navy vs. Northeastern.

Naismith bracket Day 1: UMass vs. Notre Dame and Providence vs. Florida State.

Naismith bracket Day 2: UMass vs. Florida State and Notre Dame vs. Providence.

Best semifinal/Day 1 matchup: Navy vs. Northeastern/ UMass vs. Notre Dame.

Best potential Final/ Day 2 matchup: Manhattan vs. Navy/UMass vs. Florida State.

14.Paradise Jam

The Paradise Jam is an eight team event that takes place in the U.S. Virgin Islands from Nov. 21-24. Some of the games will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

LSU will likely be the favorite to win the tournament with Clemson, Gardner Webb, Seton Hall, Nevada, Old Dominion, Illinois State and Weber State rounding out the field.

Quarterfinals matchups: Clemson vs. Gardner-Webb, Seton Hall vs. Nevada, LSU vs. Old Dominion and Illinois State vs. Weber State,

Best quarterfinal matchup: Seton Hall vs. Nevada

Most intriguing semifinal matchup: Clemson vs, Seton Hall/Nevada winner.

15. MGM Grand Main Event

The MGM Grand Main Event will feature two brackets of four teams each with games being played on Nov. 24 and 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Some of the games will be televised by ESPN family of networks.

The eight teams involved include UW-Milwaukee, Oral Roberts, Louisiana-Lafayette and a yet announced fourth team – all four teams will partake in the middleweight bracket. Auburn, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Oregon State will be in the heavyweight bracket.

What makes this tournament intriguing is the new leadership at Auburn (Bruce Pearl), Tulsa (Frank Haith) and Oregon State (Wayne Tinkle). Antoine Mason, one of the leading scorers in NCAA last season (25.6 ppg), will be one player to watch after transferring from Niagara.

Quarterfinals (all games at MGM Grand) Milwaukee vs. TBD., Oral Roberts vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, Oklahoma State vs. Oregon State, and Auburn vs. Tulsa.

Most intriguing quarterfinal matchup: /Auburn vs. Tulsa.
