NC Republicans propose bill to end 1st Amendment to the Constitution

Republicans in North Carolina’s Rowan County have propose a bill that would allow them to establish their own official religion which defies the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which allows for freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

Two GOP lawmakers introduced the bill on Monday April 1, and the bill has since received support from nine other Republicans in the State’s legislature. The bill says that each State “is sovereign” and that no court can block a state "from making laws respecting an establishment of religion". The proposed law is in direct violation of the Establishment Clause in the 1st Amendment.

The legislation was filed in response to a lawsuit to stop county commissioners in Rowan County from opening meetings with a Christian prayer, which was reported by wral.com.

The North Carolina Bill reads:

  • Section 1. The North Carolina General Assembly asserts that the Constitution of the United States of America does not prohibit states or their subsidiaries from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.
  • Section 2. The North Carolina General Assembly does not recognize federal court rulings which prohibit and otherwise regulate the State of North Carolina, its public schools, or any political subdivisions of the State from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.

The bill says the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution only applies to the federal government and does not stop state governments, local governments and school districts from adopting measures that defy the Constitution. The legislation also says that the Tenth Amendment, which says powers not reserved for the federal government belong to the states, prohibits court rulings that would seek to apply the First Amendment to state and local officials.

The Founding Fathers are surely screaming from their graves along with the untold number of Americans who have died to preserve the U.S. Constitution of the United States.
