NBC’s "The Today Show" has become known for it’s annual Halloween event . This year they pulled out all the stops with their rendition of Star wars. Host Matt Lauer “arrived” in the New York plaza as Luke Skywalker in an exact replica X-wing fighter plane. he was soon joined by co host Meredith Viera as Princess Leia who said she found herself “strangely attracted” to Lauer dressed as Skywalker.
The other show hosts were also dressed as Star Wars characters including Ann Curry as Darth Vader, Al Roker as Han Solo,Natalie Morales as Queen Amidala, Kathie Lee Gifford as C3PO, Hoda Kotb as Yoda and newcomer Sarah Sage as a storm trooper. The show was planned with Lucas Films months in advance. Each look was crafted specifically for each host down to the last detail.

Some of the costumes and accessories worn were originals or exact replica’s from the films . Al Roker’s Han Solo gun or blaster as it is called was used and worn by original Han Solo actor Harrison Ford. Cast as Queen Amidala, Natalie Morales was wearing the original gown and headdress worn by actress Natalie Portman in Phantom Menace. And Ann Curry was wearing an exact replica of the Darth Vader costume from “The Empire Strikes back”.

The set was also incredible complete with what looked like the inside of the ship. They were even able to send the hosts into hyper drive with a live action screen which sent them seemingly into the galaxy. They were also joined by many other "Star Wars" favorites such as Chewbacca, R2D2 and the fuzzy little Ewok’s who practically stole the show during a Halloween cookie decorating segment.
At one point in the show when Lauer was asked about his delay in maneuvering his exit hatch, he answered in the latest “pilot fashion” blaming it on his laptop. Tune in next year to see if they can top this Halloween 2009.
