NBC is shaking up its spring schedule just before a couple of series are set to return. The majority of the changes will affect Tuesday nights, so be prepared to adjust your DVRs accordingly.
The most notable change is that last season's darling Smash is being bumped to Saturday nights (aka the real death slot) starting April 6th 2013. The series, which started strong in its freshman season in story, tone, and ratings, slowly declined all season. This second year started with much anticipation after a show runner shake-up, but unfortunately the new blood wasn't enough to bring the audience in. The low ratings hurt the peacock network that much more because of just how much they were throwing behind the show. As of right now the network plans to air all of its seventeen ordered episodes on Saturdays at 9 p.m.
With Smash no longer on Tuesday nights, new reality series from executive producer Eva Longoria, Ready for Love, will follow The Voice (which is set to air on both Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m., starting March 25. No change to The Voice has been scheduled). Ready for Love will fill the 9 p.m. time slot where Go On previously lived.
Instead, Go On will move to Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on April 4th and 11th. This is a nice vote of confidence, putting its freshman series behind some of The Office's last episodes. These are the final two episodes of the season, and they are going out strong with an episode that features a mini Friends reunion.
1600 Penn, which airs on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. right now, will finish its 13-episode season on March 28th 2013. All episodes will air because on the 21 and 28, two episodes will air: one at 8:30 and one at 9:30.
The New Normal, which was also airing on Tuesdays, will actually wrap up with a one-hour season finale now on April 2nd at 9 p.m., and yes, the baby will be born.
However, Tuesday is not the only night to feel the changes. Sunday nights are now all about reality with encore presentations of The Voice and special two-hour installments of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. The Voice repeats on Sundays starting March 31st at 7 p.m., while Apprentice goes super sized on April 14 at 9 p.m.
