Are you watching NBC’s “The Voice”, right now? Well you might be seeing one of its judges from a different perspective after today. Musical phenomenon CeeLo Green has found himself in a different limelight, after being charged today, Oct. 21, 2013, with furnishing drugs to a woman who later alleged he sexually assaulted her.
CeeLo Green, birth name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, age 39, is a Grammy Award winning singer, song writer, actor, rapper, producer, and reality TV talent show judge. He is a former member of the “Goodie Mob”.
Green has stood accused, for over a year, of drugging a 33-year-old woman during a visit to a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles California.
The woman claimed that she and Green were at the sushi restaurant, they went back to her hotel room and the next thing that she knew she was naked in the bed. She alleged that Green had placed ecstasy in her drink at the restaurant.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office has been investigating the allegations made against Green. CeeLo Green has been allowed to go on with business as usual awaiting a decision of whether any charges would be filed. During the investigation, law enforcement learned that CeeLo and the alleged victim had dated for several months and had “sexual relations” prior to the incident.
The alleged victim had placed a recorded call to Green wherein he made reference to drugs. The taped conversation is, reported by the DA’s office, to be the determining factor to charge him with the furnishing drug charge, which is a felony. The woman’s original sexual assault allegation was unfounded and the prosecutor chose not to file charges of rape of an intoxicated person.
CeeLo Green appeared in court, at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, on October 21, 2013. He pled not guilty to one count of furnishing drugs. His bail was set at $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in court next on November 20, 2013. If found guilty, CeeLo Green could face up to four years in prison.
