NBC's 'Smash': Megan Hilty covers Carrie Underwood

Following the great success of Monday night's "Smash" premiere, it shouldn't really come as much of a surprise that NBC is doing their best to promote what is coming next -- and it includes a rather big number for Megan Hilty's character of Ivy.

If you head on over to The Hollywood Reporter, then you can hear the audio of this entire performance by Hilty's character set to the Carrie Underwood hit "Crazy Dreams" -- and we are wondering right away what is causing her to turn an upbeat song into something more depressing.

Ivy is to this point one of the more mysterious characters on the show -- while we know that she is in some pretty heavy competition with Katharine McPhee's character for the lead role in a Marilyn Monroe musical, we don't necessarily know if she is desperate for the part to the point of acting rather evil to get it.

What do you think about this choice in music -- and about there being so many "American Idol" connections on this show?
