NBC's popular sitcom Parks and Recreation wanted authentic Indiana products for Thursday's episode, "Farmer's Market". So they contacted the Indiana Winter Farmer's Market and Indianapolis City Market's U-Relish Farm. The episode will feature, according to a Facebook post, LocalFolks Foods, Artisano's Oils and Spices and U-Relish Farm, among other vendors.
U-Relish Farm's Cara Dafforn prepared a flavor especially for the episode. The crock pot meal vendor has NBC's permission to sell the new flavor, "Pawnee Chickpea", named after the fictional town in which the show takes place.
According to a press release from Dafforn, "signs and other sales tools were loaned to NBC to mock up an Indiana farmers market in California, where the show is recorded. ... When show writers wanted authenticity to develop a script on how to market Indiana products, they contacted Cara Dafforn, owner and operator of Indianapolis-based U-Relish Farms. ... Impressed with her homegrown success, writers incorporated her ideas in the show script."
The episode will be broadcast on Thursday, January 23, at 8:30 p.m. on Channel 6, WRTV, the local NBC affiliate.
Artisano's is a shop in Nora that features spices, smoked salts, balsamic vinegar and infused olive oils. It also sells walnut oil and white truffle oil. Artisano's is located at 1101 B East 86th Street, behind the Nora Apothecary. The store is closed on Mondays, open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, according to the web site.
LocalFolks Foods, whose slogan is "the flavor of the Midwest", sells an excellent salsa and hot sauce. The Sheridan-based business's mission is "to develop a diverse food line emphasizing local, fresh, natural ingredients, making a conscious effort to reduce the distance our food travels before consumption," according to the web site.
There will be a viewing party at the Tomlinson Tap Room at Indianapolis City Market on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., according to a Facebook post.
