Over two years ago, NBC announced its commitment to the swashbuckling drama, "Crossbones," which has been in development since June 2011. The series premiere has been pushed back multiple times, but will finally debut Friday, May 30 at 10 P.M. ET/PT.
Starring John Malkovich as Blackbeard, ten episodes of "Crossbones" are currently scheduled to air on Fridays between now and August 8, giving viewers a full adventure this summer. The fictionalization was once known as "The Republic of Pirates" and takes place in 1729 in The Bahamas, though it films in Puerto Rico.
Pirates have been a popular genre over the past decade for fans of both television and film, with hits ranging from the billion-dollar "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise to the preschool hit "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," which has been renewed for a fourth season.
"Crossbones" will have "NBC Dateline" as its lead-in program and will be followed by local news.
