NBC has ordered pilots for two new comedies. According to a Jan. 24 post on TV Guide, the network wants to see a pilot for “Money Pit,” and “Fifth Wheel,” a show from “Grey’s Anatomy” producer Mark Gordon.
The “Money Pit” will be loosely based on the 1986 movie which starred Tom Hanks and Shelley Long as newlyweds who buy a house that threatens to suck them dry. That movie was a remake of the 1948 film, “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.” In the series, a newlywed couple struggle to adjust to married life all the while their fixer-upper crumbles around them. Justin Spitzer, from “The Office” will write and executive produce along with Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
The “Fifth Wheel” is an ensemble comedy about a tight-knit group of friends along the lines of “Friends” or “How I Met Your Mother.” The gimmick here is the young woman at the center who finds herself the last single standing after all of her friends get engaged. Writers will be Heidi Niedermeyer and Elena Crevello, who will also executive produce along with Gordon and Andrea Shay.
