The NBC network has swiftly responded to the public and less than an hour after Super Bowl 2012 was over, an apology statement has come out concerning M.I.A. throwing the bird to the cameras. In what wasn’t planned by the network to show it appeared the decision came directly from the artist and M.I.A. didn’t let anyone know gestures she might be planning.
"The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show," NBC said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers."
Madonna had promised the Super Bowl halftime would be without incident so it was highly unlikely she endorsed any type of flipping to the public. A strong performance that brought a medley of singles to the American public along with dancing and stunts, the show would have been memorable as a perfect performance if it wasn’t ruined by the visual outburst of M.I.A.
With NBC’s immediate apology there isn’t any doubt M.I.A. won’t be invited back on live television for a while. Having a chance to think about her actions, there isn’t any doubt she would try it again as she is known for being foolish in front of the cameras.
