NBC forced to pull 'Outsourced' ad with misattributed critic's quote

NBC's Outsourced has had a rough go of things from the very beginning.  All things considered, it's pretty amazing that the series actually made it past the pilot stage: early word on the series was that it was destined to fail because of its borderline-unfunny premise-- the outsourcing of American jobs to India-- and when early reviews attacked the show for, yep, being unfunny, that nearly derailed the whole thing.  Eventually, Outsourced found its way to NBC's Thursday night lineup, but now there's a new problem: apparently, NBC was using an NBC exec's quote as a critic's quote to promote the show.  Read on for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...

Apparently, a recent ad for NBC's recently-released Thursday night sitcom, Outsourced, wasn't on the level, and Deadline's reporting that the ad has now been pulled by the Peacock.  The ad (which you can see over there on the left) is a short clip that intercuts scenes from the comedy series with raving reviews from critics.  One of them calls the show a "natural companion to The Office", while the other crows that Outsourced is a "hilarious culture clash".  Sounds like pretty steep praise, right?  Well, it would be if both of the quotes were real.

Turns out, the quote attributed to the Hollywood Reporter-- the one that calls Outsourced a "hilarious culture clash"-- is from an NBC press release promoting the show.  Furthermore, the quote attributed to Entertainment Weekly-- the one that says Outsourced is a "natural companion to The Office"-- comes from a not-entirely-positive review, which is also more than a little misleading.  This is just the latest kick to the junk for Outsourced, which suffered through some terrible early reviews during pilot season and more than a few complaints that the show's premise just isn't that funny.   NBC has pulled the ad, but it's still left a bad taste in some viewers' mouths.
