News that NBC falls to fifth place has arrived, showing that the mighty TV network is projected to finish fifth in ratings for adults age 18 to 49. The NBC network is currently ranking below Univision as well as the other three major networks.
According to a report on Feb. 21 from Deadline, NBC was "flying high in November" after sweeps, but has now fallen from its perch at the top. From Jan. 31 through Feb. 19, NBC has been averaging a 1.2 rating for adults in the 18 to 49 demographic, which is 1.5 points below Univision's rating in the same demographic. That could make for the first time ever that Univision has topped NBC, and the first-ever fourth place finish in an "in-season sweep." CBS is currently the ratings leader with a 4.9, thanks to its broadcasts of the Super Bowl and Grammy Awards in 2013.
Among the shows cited as issues for NBC have been "Do No Harm" which debuted on Jan. 31 and was canceled after a poor reception and low ratings. Also, the previous hit show "Smash," has been anything but a smash hit in its second season. It's Season 2 return was down a whopping 71% from its original season premiere.
NBC will hope to regain some of its prominence and better ratings once its hit show "The Voice" comes back on March 25. Viewers can watch NBC programming in Roanoke on local affiliate station WSLS 10 on Cox Cable.
