NBC cancels shows every fall and this time they have canceled "Ironside" and "Welcome to the Family." These NBC shows were drawing some pretty low marks in the ratings and couldn't survive much longer with decreasing numbers. According to a report from Friday (Oct. 18), the network already has plans on what to do with the opening time slots.
"Ironside" is going to be replaced with episodes of "Dateline" and "Saturday Night Live" in the months of November and December. The network has started rolling out the "SNL" themed episodes in this manner to replace canceled programs and it appears they are going to use the strategy again on Wednesday nights. As for "Welcome to the Family," it is going to be replace with repeat episodes of "Parks and Recreation" on Thursday nights as well as holiday specials.
It's no surprise at all that these moves are being made, as it has become a regular event where NBC cancels shows when the end of October starts to roll around. The network has had a lot of trouble getting new shows off the ground in recent years and it seems that these two didn't stand much of a chance. "Ironside" came in with a lot of publicity and advertising, but it appears Blair Underwood just wasn't the draw that the network had hoped to see.
